Activities
Since its inception, the Authority has been approving building permissions as per provisions of the Master Plan for Shillong, Tura and Jowai and issuing No-objection Certificates for small-scale industries within the jurisdiction of the Master Plan.
As per powers conferred by Section 74 of the Meghalaya Town and Country Planning Act, 1973 (Assam Town and Country Planning Act, 1959 as amended and adapted by Meghalaya) the Meghalaya Building Bye Laws, 2001 was notified and enforced by MUDA since February 2003. Prior to this, building permissions were sanctioned by the Municipal Board after due scrutiny of the plans by MUDA.
The Authority has also taken up survey work of the New Township for Shillong and Contour survey of most of the acquired land has been completed
In Shillong, the survey has been completed and implementation of the proposals of the Master Plan is in progress.
The major scheme for setting up New Township for Shillong has been prepared with the objective of absorbing overspill population of Shillong and to facilitate growth.
The State Govt. have made Meghalaya Urban Development Authority as the implementing Agency for New Shillong Project. Land acquisition, survey and even appointment of Consultants are the responsibilities assigned to Meghalaya Urban Development Authority.
However, with the setting up of the New Shillong Township Development Agency(NSTDA) in 2013, the implementation of the New Shillong Township and maangement of the finances, acuisition, allotment of lands, development of infrastructure have been transffered to NSTDA
Meghalaya Urban Development Authority has also been entrusted with the management and operation of the Parking lots and Shopping Complexes in Shillong as follows:
Parking lot cum Shopping Complex at Police Bazar.
Parking Lot at Mahavir Park.
Parking lot cum Shopping complex opposite District Council
Parking Lot at Khlieh Iewduh
In June 2006, MUDA has also been notified as the State Level Nodal Agency for the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and also UIDSSMT for seven towns. The function of the nodal agency is to assist ULBs in preparation of CDP and DPRs for selected towns including appraising the projects, management and monitoring the physical and financial progress etc and also in implementation of the projects
